What I’m Watching:

Islanders at Pittsburgh, Nashville at Chicago, and Tampa Bay at Vancouver are the three that have caught my interest.

Player(s) to Watch:

  • The unsustainable shooting % of Brock Nelson (Islanders) has to stop sometime.
  • Patric Hornqvist (Penguins) has benefited greatly from skating with Sidney Crosby and Hornqvist has been on a tear with 5 points in 3 games.
  • Jake Allen (Blues) is expected to start tonight. His last NHL game was April 21, 2013.
  • Tonight may be a night for the back-up goalies, as multiple teams are facing the second half of back-to-backs. Will Eddie Lack (Canucks) or Carter Hutton (Predators) see a start in net after both Ryan Miller (Canucks) and Pekka Rinne (Predators) posted shutouts last night or will teams roll with the “hot” goalie?
  • Justin Peters (Capitals) appears to be getting the first start tonight.
  • Alexander Ovechkin (Capitals) and Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay) lead the NHL in shots on goal at 24 and 23 respectively. Ovechkin is a +1 … if you were following along last year, please remember that “people” (aka MSM) complained about how many goals he scored while being a – on the ice.
  • Gustav Nyqvist (Red Wings) is on a roll, 4 goals in 4 games.
  • Sharks’ Scott Hannan will draw in for Jason Demers tonight

What I’m Watching:

I have a keen interest in all the games played – you could almost play a game of “Count the Former Canucks” in their lineups, really. I should be home in time to catch the second period of the Canucks-Oilers game, and definitely will be channel flipping between it and the Wild-Ducks game.

Player(s) to Watch:

  • Should you believe the internet, James Reimer (Leafs) will be getting the start tonight. He’s still trying to prove that he’s a) healthy and b) better than Bernier.
  • James Neal (Preds) is still hunting for his first goal of season. *checks who they’re playing* It’s very possible he could get it tonight.
  • Looks like Ryan Miller (Canucks) gets the start tonight against the Oilers. The Oilers, as we all know, are off to a horrendous start. Maybe they’ll turn it around tonight. Keep an eye on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who should play tonight.
  • Keith Ballard (Wild) will be in the line up against the Ducks… And Ryan Kesler. Ballard and Kesler are both former Canucks. It’ll be interesting to see if they’re matched up against each other.¬†Some¬†Canucks fans may even be hoping to see a patented Keith Ballard hip-check on his former teammate.

What I’m Watching:

St Louis at Los Angeles. I don’t know who I’m rooting for (LA, maybe?) because I loathe both teams, but it should be a good game regardless. Also, San Jose at New York Islanders & Dallas at Pittsburgh both should be fun to watch. Stars & Penguins in particular because it’s going to be a showcase of offensive strength.

Player(s) to Watch:

  • Patric Hornqvist & Nick Spaling – the two former-Nashville Predators, have both had nothing but accolades from their new teammates & coaching staff. Hornqvist has been tearing it up, skating on a line with Sidney Crosby (2 games, 2 goals, 2 assists)
  • Brock Nelson’s shooting percentage is unsustainable at 80%, but it’s going to be fun to see how long this streak lasts.
  • Someone needs to shine for the Carolina Hurricanes with most of their stars out. Jeff Skinner may be back from his concussion and if so, keep an eye on him. I have a feeling he’ll be lighting mups.
  • Rick Nash, despite New York Rangers tire fire the other night, has been doing nothing but good for them. I expect it to continue.
