My thoughts are with all affected by today’s tragic shooting at Marysville-Pilchuk High School.
What I’m Watching:
In today’s edition of McTanking – can Carolina fiiiinally get a win? After a lousy start, Edmonton has started to look… not bad. Wins over Tampa Bay and Washington are in the books. Perhaps they’ll just beat up on the eastern conference this year.
As a personal preference, I’m hoping that Vancouver lights up Varlamov. Second half of a back-to-back, everybody’s favorite ‘tender, Eddie Lack, should be in net.
Columbus is also on the second half of a back-to-back and after a high-scoring win last night to beat LA, do they have enough left in the tank to take on Anaheim? I’m leaning towards ‘yes’.
Player(s) to Watch:
- The usual suspects for the Stars are looking amazing. Seguin, Benn, and Spezza are each more than a point per game (10, 8 & 8 respectively.) They’ll probably hold steady at that too, as none of their shooting percentages are too outlandish. Expect a little decline as the season moves on as Seguin and Benn are 20%+ but Spezza’s only shooting at 7.7%.
- Tyler Johnson & Valtteri Filppula should be heating up soon for Tampa Bay. TJ’s only shooting at about 5% and that should definitely change. Against Winnipeg, they and Ondrej Palat should light ’em up.
- Corey Perry & Ryan Getzlaf have been red hot to start the season – 10 points each in 7 games, Perry with 8 goals. With Ryan Kesler starting to find his groove with his new team (faceoff% just under 60%, 3 goals, 3 assists over 7 games), he’s worth keeping an eye on.
